What I Wore: 70s Overalls and A New Schwinn Bike from Canadian Tire

After years of my friends begging me to get a bike, I finally broke down and decided to get one. It’s not that I can’t ride a bike – in fact, I love riding bikes! – but, more the fear I have of biking in Toronto. Thanks to the more recent effort and initiative the City of Toronto has taken to increase the amount of bike lanes we have in the downtown core, I now feel ready to conquer the road on two wheels, safely.

I was very lucky to partner with my friends at Canadian Tire who hooked me up with a beautiful bright blue new Schwinn bike that I’m absolutely smitten with. I’ll be sharing how I got ready for biking in Toronto (my tips for total beginners) in an upcoming post, but before then I wanted to take a moment to highlight this outfit, and these photos that were shot by my talented friend David Gillespie.

What I Wore: 70s Overalls and A New Schwinn Bike from Canadian Tire

This outfit was one hundred percent inspired by my stylish friend Clara Gold of Gold Apothecary. Over the past few months we’ve spent a lot of time together as gym buddies who coordinated our weekly Classpass schedule together. One day, post sweat session at one of our favourite King West studios, Clara emerged from the change room in an outfit that stopped me in my tracks and had me jumping down in excitement, and (obviously) ensemble envy – she was in my dream outfit!

What was she wearing? A pair of high waist, flare cut, fitted overalls from the GAP, with a simple striped tee underneath and very au courant bandana chicly tied around her neck. To me, this outfit was like Daisy Duke met Brigitte Bardot and they mixed their wardrobes together. Naturally, I immediately ran to the GAP on Queen West to  buy my own indigo onesie after blatantly admitting that I was going to replicate her outfit from head to toe.

Once the super chic dungarees were in my possession, I got to work pulling out what I could find from my own closet to complete the look. The white striped tee is one I picked up from Mendocino, while the red bandana I bought on a recent visit to Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn this summer. The boots are a vintage pair I found at the Toronto Designers Market, and the wheels, of course, are on a Schwinn bike from Canadian Tire.

I guess this outfit is just helping me release the inner Southern lady that lives within me, even though I’m a born and bred Canadian gal.

Thank you Clara for helping me bring this look to life!
