While I was in University at the Ryerson School of Fashion, I worked part-time at a retail shop for an Australian brand that was located near Queen and Portland. At the time, one of my favourite vintage stores in Toronto, House of Vintage, was right next door, and I think I spent almost as much time in HOV as I did at the shop I actually worked in.
Since then, House of Vintage moved their shop from Queen West, to West Queen West in Parkdale, and unfortunately I don’t often get across the city to visit them as much as I’d like to. In my opinion, the owner, Dennis Adamidis, has one of the best selections of vintage in the city for both high and low finds. Shopping in the store is a pretty incredible experience in itself (his taste in decor is amazing), and I would highly recommend visiting as soon as possible, if you haven’t already.
Even though I don’t often make it over to Parkdale (I’m a dedicated East Sider these days), I still ‘shop’ all of my favourite west side stores on the daily by perusing their instagram accounts to see what’s new, and what I need.
Most recently it was this vintage Roots jacket that caught my eye when it popped up on my Instagram feed from the House of Vintage Insta account (you should follow them HERE), and I knew I had to have it. As it goes with one-off vintage items, they let me know the jacket had already sold when I inquired, but I later learned it was all a ploy by my friend and photographer, Dave Gillespie, to surprise me with the jacket on the day of our shoot. What a guy!
