Is it just me or has May 2017 arrived epicly, and alarmingly, fast? While I can hardly believe that we’re already five months into this year, I will admit that I welcome the new lovely spring weather with open arms and a big, happy smile. The arrival of May doesn’t only bring on endless memes of Justin Timberlake in his NSYNC heydey (you know, the whole “It’s gonna be may” thing), but it also means it’s time to get ready to celebrate Mother’s Day. In case you haven’t added in a calendar reminder yet, this year’s day to celebrate mamas across Canada is on Sunday May 14th, 2017.
Although working hard and being busy surely makes many moms proud, it’s no excuse for forgetting to plan a nice date together, or getting her a gift. If you’re a kid in #the6ix, here’s a round up of 5 ideas for Mother’s Day 2017 in Toronto.
Enjoy: Free Lattes & Jazz Brunch
Free lattes? Say what!? it’s true. On Mother’s Day Ricarda’s Cafe on Peter Street will be offering free lattes to every mom and daughter/son that visits together. If you’re in for more than just a latte, Ricarda’s Restaurant will be hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch that sounds pretty amazing. The buffet-style brunch will not only feature a Mediterranean feast, including fresh-baked breads, hearty salads, cheeses, made-to-order pastas, carved meats, and delicious pastries, along with a beverage buffet featuring house wine, bubbly and caesars. Sounds delish, doesn’t it? Brunch pricing is $55 per adult, $28 for kids, and $30 for the all-inclusive beverage buffet that all comes with a side of smooth live jazz for everyone to enjoy. Buy: Cherry Blossoms That Last a Lifetime
Did you miss getting to see the cherry blossoms in bloom? You’re not alone, because samesies. Although I certainly wish I’d had a chance to get to Trinity Bellwoods or High Park to see them in person, especially with my mom, I sadly didn’t make it in time. But that’s okay! Because I recently had a chance to get up close and personal with the new spring collection from Pandora Scarborough Town Centre & Pandora Pickering Town Centre that features a number of lovely “Magnolia Bloom” pieces that instantly reminded me of those pretty, pink and white cherry blossoms that come and go so quickly. These are extra perfect for my mama because the Magnolia also happens to be her favourite flower and I decided to gift her with the delicate ring to go with the Magnolia Bloom charm I had picked for myself. If you think your mum would love to be treated to a #DOBLOOM piece from Pandora this year, head to Pandora Scarborough Town Centre or Pandora Pickering Town Centre. Get: Flowers From The Market, Or Delivered
You know what goes well with floral jewellery? A fresh bunch of real flowers! On Saturday May 13th the Toronto Flower Market returns for their first market of their 5th season, just in time for Mother’s Day. This beautiful market is definitely the most anticipated flower market in Toronto and what better excuse to visit than to buy a bouquet for mom? You can find the market at 1001 Queen Street West from 10am to 3pm and get more information HERE. However, if you can’t make it in person because #busy, I recommend putting in an order to have a bouquet delivered to you (or directly to mom) with help from my favourite on-demand flower delivery service in Toronto, Tonic Blooms.
Visit: A Pop Up For Pampering
Mama deserves some pampering, don’t you think? I mean, she raised you after all! If you’re looking to treat her to some all-natural apothecary goodness, be sure to stop by my talented friend Gold Apothecary’s pop up inside my other talented friend’s shop, Cure Apothecary, on Mother’s Day from 12-5pm at 719 Queen Street West. Not only will their amazing bath salts (and more!) be for sale, but lavender-inspired refreshments and snacks will be served! YUM.
See: Georgia O’Keefe’s Exhibit
To continue with this floral theme for my Mother’s Day ideas, my last suggestion is to take mom to see the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit at the AGO aka Art Gallery of Ontario. On now until July 30, 2017, the exhibition features over 100 works of art by one of the 20th century’s most successful and influential modernists. If mama loves flowers and cool paintings, this is the show to see! Get more information on the show and tickets HERE.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas!
