As many of you have likely gathered by now, two of my favourite things in life include pizza and hosting parties at home. Many of the dinner parties I host are often themed, so when my friends at Delissio told me that National Pizza Day was coming up (it’s on February 9th, officially) I jumped at the chance to put together an epic pizza party at #CasaGC. I mean, who says pizza parties are just for kids? Certainly not me!
You might remember the Girls Night I hosted last fall for a few of my girlfriends, where I served (and shared!) some of my favourite ways to customize and “gourmet-ify” frozen pizzas from Delissio Rustico. This is a fun little trick I’ve been doing for years, and my head instantly filled with ideas of how to amp up the toppings and combinations for my upcoming party. And this time, I wanted to go beyond the food; I decided for National Pizza Day I needed to go ALL. OUT.
Although I’m usually one to dismiss needless decorations (I normally just worry about the menu, and if my house is clean), this pizza party was an absolute exception. Even though this party wasn’t for children, childlike excitement was bursting out of me.
The first thing I did was pick up the phone and call Balloon Queen (thankfully she is located near my house, although they do deliver!) and ordered giant silver helium balloons to spell out P-I-Z-Z-A to hang along my living room wall. Next, I thought about the stores where I was most likely to find an abundance of pizza-themed products in a pinch. I ran to Urban Outfitters where I found the ‘Love at First Slice‘ snow globe (pictured above) – perfect! Then, to Forever 21 where I purchased a jersey with a pizza patch for myself, and ‘Pizza Lover‘ t-shirts for my guests to wear. As you can imagine, they were a huge hit and a fun surprise for my little Pizza Posse. Of course they all got to take them home too which was a nice little party favour, and, in a way, kind of like the party favours we used to get as kids. Weren’t those the best part?
Now, onto the FOOD! The PIZZA! OMG they were so good. Here I’m sharing 5 recipes for the Gourmet Frozen Pizzas I created using 5 types of Delissio Rustico pizzas. I was so pleased to find that they all turned out to be super yummy, but, the best part was when, after the first round of pizzas I had made was served, my Pizza Posse took it upon themselves to get creative in the kitchen and the party turned into a cooking competition for the best customised pizza creation! If your friends are competitive foodies like mine are, I highly recommend trying this fun (and delicious!) game at home too. Here’s how to make some of my favourite combinations:
5 Gourmet Frozen Pizza Recipes with Delissio Rustico
The Brussel Bacon Funghi
- Maple Bacon
- Chili Flakes
Sweet Green Margherita
Shrimp & Veggie Medley
- Shaved Asparagus
- Lemon Zest
Butter Chicken Fresca
- Butter Chicken
- Feta Cheese
- Roasted Red Pepper
Bagel & Lox Formaggi
- Smoked Salmon
- Red Onion
National Pizza Day or not, I truly don’t believe you need much reason to get your friends together and enjoy a great meal. Even if you don’t get as wild with the decorations and coordinated outfits as I did, a pizza party at home is always a fun way to feed your crew at any time of year! Trust me, they’ll be super impressed by how good your customised gourmet frozen pizzas are and will happily devour all of them.
