UNION CHICKEN

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Located at CF Sherway Gardens in¬†Etobicoke,¬†Union Chicken¬†is definitely not your average mall restaurant.¬†Chef Mike¬†is a chicken magician with his countless tricks¬†to prepare a bird in surprising and drool-worthy ways. From his classic rotisserie style to deep fried, these organic¬†birds are never¬†dry, always super moist and fresh — seriously, he and his team are serving up the best chicken we’ve ever had! See below for¬†some of the delectable eats we had from their new menu that launched on July 19th:

New on the menu is Uncle Ray’s Lightning Chicken¬†($16) which is Union Chicken‘s version of the infamous¬†Nashville Hot Chicken. We can’t get enough of the spice and heat that this baby packs with Chef Mike’s¬†house made chicken fat and their¬†Signature Chicken Spice!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Next up is Union Chicken‘s¬†UC Viet ‚ÄėBanh‚Äô ($13) a¬†lighter twist¬†on the¬†Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich. Using a milk bun instead of the classic baguette allows for the spicy mayo to be absorbed into the soft bun while the organic chicken remains the star of the show. YUM.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

This one goes out to all our fellow chicken wing aficionados out there! The Seoul Brother ($18/half or $32/whole)¬†adds some intense international flavour to the mix and we can’t get enough of this sweet and spicy Korean Fried Chicken! Steamed and then fried un-breaded, these babies are good for more than just their wings — the breast, thighs, legs and even the back make for some pretty tasty bites!

In addition to these 3 insanely delicious and brilliant dishes, Union Chicken¬†also has 2 incredible dessert menu items that you’ll want to save room for! Their Adults Only Kentucky Bourbon Milkshake¬†($12) is boozy, creamy, dreamy and is perfect alongside dinner or as dessert.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Lastly, their¬†Ridiculously Rich Warm Triple Chocolate Brownie ($9)¬†will make you think you’ve died and gone to chocolate heaven! Chocolate ice cream sliding down a warm brownie drizzled with chocolate sauce sounds like the perfect ending to the perfect meal!

MARBEN

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

If you’re in the King and Portland area and you’re hungry, we strongly suggest you walk one block south to Wellington and pop into Marben for an unforgettable¬†meal. With homey decor and an Old English vibe, Marben is cozy and is the place to take you from after work cocktails to dinner and dessert.¬†Marben’s new menu boasts insane flavours and combinations that you wouldn’t think go together until you chow down. This is a definitely a hidden¬†hot spot we’ll be frequenting on their regularly, especially while we can still take advantage of their beautiful patio! See below for the beautiful and delectable plates we enjoyed from Marben’s new stunning seasonal summer menu by the talented Chef Chris Locke.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

We started off with their Heritage Pork Croquette ($13) with rhubarb chutney, tarragon aioli and fennel and celeriac slaw. Believe it or not, this appetizer was surprisingly light thanks to the crunchy slaw and herbaceous aioli and there was zero greasiness that would bed expected from a crispy croquette.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Another fave, their Four Style Heirloom Beets ($12)¬†is fresh and inventive with the addition of basil ricotta. Serving them four ways — pickled, poached, pureed and crisped — these beets are a light and summery starter¬†that we can’t wait to dig into again!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Bold in flavour, their Gin and Tonic Ontario Trout ($14) is simplicity at its finest. With lemon¬†cr√®me fra√ģche and compressed cucumber, these little mouthfuls of heaven are perfect bites on a plate that can easily be shared.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Moving onto mains, we sampled their Lamb Duo ($32) and were blown away by the buttery lamb loin and tenderness of the belly. The honey¬†cr√®me fra√ģche adds the perfect amount of sweetness that balances out the earthiness of the shimeji mushrooms.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Another entree we fell hard for was their¬†Penokean Hill Farms Petite Tender ($29)¬†complete with heirloom carrots, shallot confit and thrice cooked potatoes! There’s just something about juicy, tender meat and crispy yet still fluffy potatoes that just melts our hearts. This definitely the¬†perfect comfort food meal and we highly recommend it!

THE ONE EIGHTY

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Moving on a little further uptown to Yorkville is The One Eighty on the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre. We know all too well that tourist attractions can often be a let down in the food department, but thankfully The One Eighty not only offers the best rooftop views of Toronto, but serves up great food and cocktails to enjoy alongside it. We recently visited The One Eighty to check out their newly launched Lunch Menu, see below for what we tried and loved most:

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

We started things off with a cocktail (obvi!) and chose their Pineapple Mint Prosecco Pop ($10) (which seriously comes with a popsicle in it) for the most refreshing summer drank on a hot day.

The first plate¬†we had was the¬†Ahi Tuna Tartare ($21) that’s perfectly paired with the silkiest avocado mousse and crispy kettle chips. With a spicy kick, this fresh tuna is so delicious¬†that we may or may not have ordered a few more for the table! Note: We totally ordered more for the table.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Next we chowed down on two great salads that are perfect for sharing or enjoying on your own. First we dove into their Black Kale Salad ($19, bottom¬†right)¬†with pickled grapes, goat cheese br√Ľl√©e¬†and a burnt maple vinaigrette. The addition of the pickled grapes absolutely makes it as the acidity worked beautifully with the sweetness for¬†a perfect bite every time.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

The second salad we sampled was their¬†Brussels Sprout Caesar ($17, top left)¬†(and we instantly fell back in love with our long lost lover — the caesar salad. The crispy prosciutto¬†with charred croutons and fresh shaved Grana Padano made what could have been a simple salad, a complete revelation

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Next we feasted on their sweet and spicy Al Pastor Pork + Pineapple Tacos ($20) with pit roasted pork shoulder, pineapple and onion with cilantro mix. These babies were GONE in mere seconds after they hit the table!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Our top must-try dish has to be their¬†Truffle Gnocchi ($29) with burrata and wild mushrooms. Fluffy gnocchi in a creamy butter sauce — what could be better than that?! The lunch we had at The One Eighty is well¬†worth conquering any¬†fear of heights to get to enjoy their¬†spectacular views and yummy¬†food.

MIKU

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Located along Toronto’s Harbourfront, Miku is a foodie sanctuary that might be new to anyone who rarely ventures south of King Street (you know who you are). If you haven’t been before, don’t expect to find¬†California Rolls on the menu at Miku because¬†these sushi chefs are known for their¬†expertly¬†prepared authentic¬†sushi and sashimi that¬†are as beautiful as they are delicious!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Miku is known for bringing the art of Aburi to Toronto. Aburi means to ‘flame sear’ and that’s exactly what these uber talented chefs do.¬†When flame is applied to sushi, the heat changes the sushi‚Äôs flavour to create something new and exciting!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

We fell HARD for their Aburi Salmon and Ebi Oshi Sushi ($17 per order) and let us tell youРthis sushi is a cut above (get it?) our neighbourhood sushi joints. Fresh and charred to perfection, these babies are crazy addictive and we could not stop popping them all night!

Another fave is their Miku Roll ($20) which is salmon, crab and cucumber rolled in tobiko (fish roe) with their Miku sauce. SO GOOD.

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Did you know that Miku also has an extensive Sake menu? Not only do they offer sake tastings picked by their sake specialist but they also write a ‘Know Your Sake’ column on their website that features various Sake breweries!

Best Restaurant Menu Toronto Summer

Miku is one of the gems in YYZ and we can’t wait to go back and eat ALL the sushi!
